Is the homeschool lifestyle right for your family?
Feeling nervous about making a mistake? Are you staring at a mountain of information and wondering how to get through it? When I first started out what I wanted more than anything else was a mentor to help me in those beginning steps. I needed someone to answer the burning questions like:
* How can I know homeschooling will work for us? * Am I qualified? Is it legal? * How can I find and choose curriculum that works but doesn't cost a fortune? * What's the best way to handle the rude and disapproving comments?
Through the pages of this site we hope to inspire, advise and give you the wisdom of those who have gone before and understand the terrain, it's rewards and dangers. Homeschooling is not unlike the pioneer journeys of the old West, you need a good guide.

Yes, it is possible to homeschool your child!
Are you aware that over 2.04 million children are home educated? One of the biggest misconceptions that exists, regarding a parents ability to homeschool, is that only those with degrees in education should attempt this difficult task.
However, 95% of the parents who home educate do not have teaching degrees and yet statistics show that, on average, homeschooled children score higher on national exams. "The home-educated typically score 15 to 30 percentile points above public-school students on standardized academic achievement tests. (The public school average is the 50th percentile; scores range from 1 to 99.)"...NHERI.org . High test scores, prestigious college admissions and successful job placements are all a part of the statistics as well.
Do you love your child? Can you read? You can teach your child at home.
Homeschooling is not as difficult as it's critics like to make it appear. I've seen homeschooling families from all walks of life (including parents that struggled in school themselves) successfully homeschool their children. Your passion and excitement about education will spill over into your children's lives and inspire them to a lifetime of learning. "School" isn't something that should just happen in a classroom, a passion for education should be our life-long goal.
If homeschooling were not successful then it wouldn't be growing, but it is, by leaps and bounds! From 1999 to 2007 there was a 74% increase in homeschooling! The first generation of homeschooled children believe so strongly in the home education model that they are now beginning to homeschool their own children.
Hello friends, I'm so glad you came to visit. My name is Lori and I've been joyfully (most of the time!) homeschooling my children since 1992. I hope you find inspiration (and a few reality checks) in the pages of this site.
